Hull Kingston Rovers broke the world rugby league transfer record when they signed Phil from Barrow for ยฃ32,000 in December 1978.

With 150 appearances already to his name and a World Cup Final appearance for Great Britain Phil came to the Robins in search of silverware and he didn’t disappoint! Winning trophies was a case of not if but when with Phil playing a key role in securing Championship, Premiership, Yorkshire Cup and Challenge Cup glory for the Robins.

In this HeritageCast Phil takes his through his career in red and white and shares some never heard before stories including how he fell out with Roger Millward because of benched for the 1980 Challenge Cup Final. In all, Phil Hogan made 254 appearances for the Robins, 25 of these as a substitute; he scored 65 tries and kicked 53 goals, plus a drop goal, for a total of 316 points.

He was a fast and powerful runner, and a fine cover-tackler, who always gave 100% โ€“ as well as a flamboyant personality both on and off the field. Whilst it might be difficult to imagine some of the players of the past playing in Super League, that would not have applied to Phil Hogan โ€“ it could have been made for him.
